Fun! How professor, students marked Nigeria’s Independence Day in America’s Indiana University
Here’s how students at an American university celebrated Nigeria’s 55th Independence Day.

Antonia Folarin Schleicher is an expert in linguistics with particular emphasis on African languages.
She’s got degrees from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and the University of Kansas, United States in General Linguistics.
So it was time for a Yoruba class on October 1 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. That’s where she now lectures, and leads.
Here’s what the professor, her assistants, and her students did…
…and one of them (an assistant professor) couldn’t contain his joy at learning so much and having a nice time.
“Today was fun,” Assistant Professor Temi Wright, said.
Wright, who’s got a degree in English Language from the University of Lagos, shared his experience on Facebook and allowed Newsroom tell you about it.

“We discussed Nigeria’s past presidents and many of them were like ‘OMG! I didn’t know that.’ ‘Is he still alive? How?’ and ‘This was the most I have learnt since like ever!’
“We also had a feature from Beyonce singing the national anthem – which they loved.
“Then the unexpected: a surprise visit from Professor Alwiya Omar – the head of the AfriLing program.
“In all, it was fun, cool, interesting and we had a good time. Learning became joy and at the end…’twas turned up!”
Happy Independence Day Nigeria!
