Food Poisoning: Brothers arrested for selling beans sprayed with insecticide in Lagos

Three beans traders have been apprehended for food poisoning in Alagbado area of Lagos state.
Faith, Chidioke and Sunday Ogbona, all siblings, have been accused of selling beans contaminated with Sniper insecticide.
A customer allegedly saw Chidioke spraying the liquid on the beans and informed the police.
Chidioke said he wanted to preserve the beans from insects, while Faith, the older brother and owner of the shop, said he didn’t instruct his brother to spray the food.
Faith, 41, however said he buys beans preserved with some chemicals including Sniper and DD Force, from Maiduguri, Borno state.
He said: “Chidioke just came back from our village. He had never seen me put Sniper in beans. In Maiduguri, if my suppliers wanted to preserve beans, they put DD Force or Sniper in water and spray it on the beans. It will be stored for about three or six months, depending on the quantity of chemicals applied.”
The third suspect, Sunday, said he knew nothing about the act.
Chidioke, 18, and Sunday were arrested on Friday, while police from the Alagbado division detained Faith when he went to the station with an intention to secure his brothers’ bail.
Faith allegedly offered the DPO N500,000 but she rejected it.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
