Fire Burns Govt staff quarters in Lagos
A fire early Friday morning severely damaged part of a three-storey building at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off Wempco Road in Ogba. The incident, which broke out around 2:39 a.m., was swiftly addressed by emergency services.
Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the fire’s outbreak. The agency received emergency distress calls via the 767 and 112 lines and promptly mobilized its response team from the Alausa command and control centre.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire was contained in one of the two-bedroom flats—Flat 5 in Block 21, a building comprising 16 such flats. The blaze originated in a children’s room, triggered by a power surge.

The coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were instrumental in containing the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported. However, the fire caused significant damage, particularly in the children’s bedroom, with property losses amounting to millions of naira.
