Fayemi receives Certificate of Return, commends INEC for “free and fair” election
The Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has received his Certificate of Return from INEC.
INEC, represented by he National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Osun states, Prince Adedeji Soyebi, presented the certificate to the former minister on Wednesday.
Fayemi defeated his PDP counterpart, Prof. Kolapo Olusola in Saturday’s governorship election.
Fayemi’s running mate, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, also received his Certificate of Return at the event.
Fayemi thanked the people of the for their support before and during the July 14 governorship election, and promised not to mess up the mandate he has been given.
Despite outgoing state governor, Ayo Fayose’s claims that the election was marred by rigging and unfairness, Fayemi commended INEC for an “excellent job” in the conduct of what he described a “seamless, free, fair, credible and violence-free,” election.
“For INEC, the work has just ended and for us, the work has just started. We have a responsibility not to disappoint our people,” he said.
“We have a duty of responsibility not to disappoint the people for keeping faith with us. Ekiti people will see the benefit of good governance by the grace of God as from October 16.”
