Fayemi becomes seventh Nigerian governor to test positive for COVID-19
Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayeni, on Wednesday, said he has tested positive for COVID-19.
“I took my third Covid-19 test yesterday and it came back positive,” Fayemi said in a Twitter statement.
“I’m generally ok and I’m already self isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team.”
He added that he is delegating “critical tasks” to his Deputy but will continue routine duty from home.
Fayemi joins the list of six other Nigerian governors – Bala Muhammed of Bauchi, Nasir Elrufai of Kaduna, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, who got infected with the virus and have since recovered.
Ekiti accounts for 86 (about 0.23%) of the 37, 801 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the nation as at Tuesday July 22, 2020.
