Falae: “Only IG Arase can confirm, deny arrest of kidnappers,” Ondo police say
Spokesperson for the Nigerian police in Ondo State said he cannot confirm whether or not some of the men who kidnapped prominent politician Olu Falae have been arrested.
Reports were rife, Sunday, two members of the alleged 12-man gang were arrested last week.
Three others were reportedly apprehended in Niger State on Sunday, a report quote police sources as saying.
Ondo State police spokesperson said only the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase will speak on the matter.
“The IG had taken over all issues relating to Falae,” Femi Joseph said, neither denying nor confirming the report.
“The issue of Falae is a national issue that IG will speak on. The commissioner said it is a matter that only IG can speak on.
“The IG is likely to brief journalists on the matter tomorrow (Monday).”
Suspected Fulani herdsmen abducted Falae on September 21 by suspected herdsmen. The police claimed to have rescued him 72 hours later.
Falae’s family, however said the politician was released only after the abductors were paid a ransom.
The police denied this.
