FA Cup 5th Round: VAR To Be Implemented
The English Football Association (FA) has revealed that Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will now be adopted starting from the fifth round of the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup.
The FA made the official announcement via its website with the caption, “VAR Confirmed for Emirates FA Cup from Fifth Round Onward.”
According to the statement, the move aims to ensure more consistent officiating during matches.
“It has been agreed that VAR will be utilised for every match in the Fifth Round of the competition through to the Final at Wembley Stadium,” the statement read in part.
However, it was quick to clarify that VAR will not feature in the Third and Fourth Rounds of the competition.
The FA explained that, in previous editions, VAR was only used “for matches at Wembley Stadium and Premier League grounds due to the infrastructure, workforce, and costs required for its operation.”
“This decision ensures that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition,” the FA assured.
With the adoption of VAR, fans and stakeholders will now expect a higher level of officiating as the competition heats up.
