Exclusive: UNILAG confirms death of student who “vomited blood”
University of Lagos (UNILAG) told Newsroom on Sunday it is aware 100 Level student Temitope Omolara is dead.
Temitope was reported to have died at a hospital off campus on Thursday night. She reportedly vomited blood fueling suspicion she fell victim to ritual killers.
“Information available so far indicates that she called someone (some say, relations, others say male) to come and pick her from the hall,” Toyin Adebule, UNILAG Deputy Registrar (Information Unit), told our correspondent in an email on Sunday.
“Later information filtered into the hall on Friday that she had died.
We were told UNILAG took disciplinary action against another student with whom Temitope squatted at Moremi Hall – a female hostel.
Squatting is illegal in UNILAG. As Temitope’s parents visited the hostel to pick their daughter’s belongings on Friday, the school reportedly found out that the late student wasn’t a legal occupant of the hostel – she squatted with someone.
That “someone” was reportedly evicted from the hostel.
Adebule said the school did no such thing.
“There is no formal report from the hall to the DSA (dean of student affairs) on the incident. Therefore, no action could have been taken to eject the bona fide student as claimed,” the registrar said.
“Let me state categorically here that no student has been ejected from the hall over this matter.
“At this moment, our thoughts are with the family,” Adebule said.
Temitope was a 100 Level student of Chemistry Education. She was buried on Friday. We don’t know what killed her.
