EXCLUSIVE: Police allegedly detain doctor who attempted to treat attacked PDP chieftain ahead of Osun election re-run

The police in Osun State have allegedly arrested and detained a medical doctor, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji for carrying out medical treatment on a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Fatai Oyedele.

Oyedele, popularly known as Diekola, was attacked on Monday by hoodlums suspected to be acting on behalf of the APC ahead of the governorship election re-run set to take place in the state on Thursday.

The hoodlums had stormed the Alekuwodo area where Ward 5, Unit 17 is located, and allegedly attacked Diekola, his driver, and another occupant of his car with machetes and guns.

Diekola, Newsroom gathered from a top PDP source on Wednesday, was arrested and detained following the incident.

“They said he was caught with PVC, engaging in vote buying,” the source said of the charge that has been levelled against Diekola.

“They should bring out the PVC seen in his possession for the entire public to see. Diekola has been there since Monday, he hasn’t been taken to court. What sort of government is this?!” he said.

The source further told Newsroom that Dr. Oladimeji, this Wednesday morning, visited Diekola at the SCID to treat the injuries he sustained during Mondays’ attack and has been detained as well.

“After giving the treatment, he was detained for no reason. A medical doctor that went to attend to an attacked person who you refused to grant medical freedom since Monday morning.”

The source decried what he called “intimidation” of the opposition by the APC, adding that the house of another top PDP leader, Alhaji Olarinde was sacked by hoodlums on Tuesday.

The gubernatorial election between PDP’s Senator Ademola Adeleke and APC’s Gboyega Oyetola will hold on Thursday.
