EXCLUSIVE: All I have to say is on my Instagram page, Salawa Abeni keeps mum on blackmail attempt
Waka legend Salawa Abeni has said she would not like to talk about her alleged blackmailer who threatened to post her nude photos on the internet.
She told Neusroom after a request for comments over the failed attempt by one faceless Jason to extort her.
Waka is a popular Islamic-oriented Yoruba musical genre.
Salawa refused to comply with her blackmailer’s request which often result in recurrent requests of more money and in some cases, the blackmailers publish the pictures anyway. Before Jason could carry out his threat after giving her three days to comply to his request, Salawa shared the photos on her Instagram page.
Her action earned her support and commendation from many netizens and other Nigerian celebrities.
“Whatever you want to ask me is already on my Instagram page,” She told Neusroom in a phone conversation.
Although blackmail and intent to extort money from other person with threats is a punishable offence under the Nigerian Criminal Code Act, Salawa didn’t disclose if she is taking any legal action against the blackmailer.
Asked if she plans to take any legal action to serve as a deterrent to other criminals who extort people by threat, she said “whatever you need is on my Instagram page, that is all I have to say.”
