Ex-Air Force chief sentenced to seven years in prison over N136m fraud

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced retired Air Force Marshal, Tony Omenyi to seven years in prison after he was found guilty of money laundering that amounts to N136m which he received as a kickback from a contractor to Nigeria Air Force.

Omenyi was accused of using his position as the Managing Director of NAF subsidiary company, Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Limited, to accumulate the money from SkyExperts Limited.

Presiding over the case, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba handed the convict a seven-year sentence for each of the three-count charge brought against him. The judge ruled that the sentence will run concurrently.

He also ordered that the N62m recovered from Omenyi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC be forfeited to the Federal Government.

The judge further ruled that Huzee Limited, the company that was used to acquire the fund should be folded up by the government.
