Elon Musk Claims DOGE Has Saved $1B in DEI Contracts, Targets $4B Daily Cuts
Elon Musk, head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claimed that the agency has terminated approximately $1 billion in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) contracts across 24 federal departments.
The revelation came via a Friday post on DOGE’s official X account, which Musk reshared, stating: “DOGE has now saved taxpayers over $1 billion in crazy DEI contracts.”
According to the DOGE tweet, “Through 1/29/2025, 85 DEIA related contracts totaling ~$1B have been terminated within the Dept. of Ed, GSA, OPM, EPA, DoL, Treasury, DoD, USDA, Commerce, DHS, VA, HHS, State, NSF, NRC, NLRB, PBGC, USAID, RRB, SSA, SBA, BLM, CFPB, NPS, and NOAA.”
Musk, who has reportedly been sleeping at DOGE’s headquarters in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, tied the cuts to broader deficit reduction goals. In a follow-up tweet, he outlined plans to slash federal spending by an average of $4 billion daily through September 2026, aiming to shrink the deficit from $2 trillion to $1 trillion.
“Reducing the federal deficit… requires cutting an average of ~$4B/day… Economic growth should match that number, which would mean no inflation in 2026. Super big deal,” he wrote.
Since his inauguration on January 20, Trump has unleashed various orders against DEIA programs in the country. On Monday, the President signed another executive order aimed at ending hiring in the US military based on gender and race. This is in addition to his executive order from the day of his inauguration, which identified male and female as the only recognised genders in the country, to be assigned at birth.
Now, the Tesla CEO has claimed that the cut in various funding of DEIA programs was part of DOGE’s efforts to get rid of unwanted government expenses.
