Ekiti lawmakers approve Fayose’s N10bn supplementary budget 1 month before handover

Just one month before Ayo Fayose will hand over power to Dr Kayode Fayemi, the outgoing Ekiti State governor’s proposed N10 billion supplementary budget has been approved.

Journalist were barred from the the State House of Assembly as fourteen lawmakers approved the budget Thursday afternoon.

The lawmakers, including the speaker Kola Oluwole, reportedly went through the proposal within an hour and passed it. The House of Assembly, until today, had been on recess since July 16.

A lawmaker, Ekundayo Akineye, justified the approval, saying to TheCable that Fayemi had done same when he was voted out of office in 2014.

Fayemi, who is set to be sworn in as governor on October 16, has described the supplementary budget as fraudulent.

Fayose had earlier been accused of attempting to disrupt Fayemi’s administration by putting plans in place to recruit about 1,000 teachers and 1,000 workers.
