EFCC seizes gold worth N211m at Lagos airport
The EFCC last Friday uncovered an illegal scheme to smuggle 35kg gold worth N211 million to Dubai by a suspect who is not named.
EFCC’s Acting Head of Media, Tony Orilade said on Tuesday that the goods were intercepted at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
“Following intelligence reports, the operatives on November 9, 2018, uncovered the gold weighing about 35kg just at the point of departure of a suspect currently in the EFCC’s custody,” Orilade said.
Orilade said the agency would expose those behind the illegal consignment, adding that the suspect was co-operating well in EFCC’s attempt to apprehend those on the run.
He added that in 2017 a bag containing N49millon was also found in Kaduna International Airport.
“It will be recalled that the EFCC also in March 2017, intercepted bags containing a total of N49 million cash being illegally transported out of the country through the Kaduna International Airport,” he said.
