Drunk husband stabs neighbour for settling fight with wife
One Lukmon Azeez is facing jail term for allegedly stabbing a neighbour who was trying to settle a fight between him and his wife.
The incident occurred on Anjorin Street, in the Akowonjo area Lagos state.
Azeez reportedly returned home drunk and ordered his children to kneel in front of him before flogging them, but the wife intervened and it led to a fight.
He allegedly broke a bottle to fight his wife, but a 46-year-old Muideen, who was said to be on a visit to his family attempted to settle the dispute. Muideen was allegedly stabbed with the broken bottle by Azeez.
“Around 10.10pm on that day, I went to see my wife who was sick. As I was about to eat the food she gave me, I heard a woman shouting in the compound. I later heard the sound of a broken bottle,” Muideen said in a statement.
“A woman called Mama Ade came to settle the quarrel, but someone pulled her away. When I could not take it anymore, I came out of the room and tried persuading the man. He used the broken bottle in his hand to stab me in the head.”
Azeez was arrested and arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
The case was adjourned till October 3.
