Cult clash in Edo leaves three people dead
No fewer than three people have lost their lives in Edo state capital, Benin-City as cult rivals clashed in the city between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The three victims have been identified as 19-year-old Godspower Edobor; a man in his 40s nicknamed Africa, and one John Terry whose head was smashed with a plank.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of Edo state Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, disclosed that the attack was as a result of renewed clashes among rival cult groups and that the police has arrested some of the suspects.
“Killings from clashes by rival cult groups have continued unabated in Edo State. The renewed clashes between the cult groups have claimed several lives. The police are aware of it and adequate security measures have been put in place,” he said.
In the light of rising cases of cult clashes and ritual killings in Edo, the state government had placed a ban on such practices in the state, but some cult members seem unfazed as they continue to go round, perpetrating violence.
