Court Sentences Former Oba Of Lagos’ Son To Death By Hanging
One of the sons of Late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan of Lagos, Adewale Oyekan has been sentenced to death by hanging by the State High Court in Ikeja after he was found guilty of masterminding the murder of 62-year-old businesswoman, Sikirat Ekun.
Oyekan was handed the death penalty alongside the main culprit, Lateef Balogun, a former domestic servant whom he paid N6,000 to murder Ekun.
Evidence presented to the court showed that the victim was murdered by strangling and later thrown into a deep well in her home.
Following the gruesome nature of the murder, the presiding judge, Raliatu Adebiyi said that the appropriate punishment for the crime was death.
“For this reason, the first and second defendants are hereby sentenced on each of counts one and two, to death by hanging. May God, the giver of life, have mercy on your souls,” she pronounced.
