Meet Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, the first female DG of the Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making history as the first woman to head the institution since it was established in 1962. Her appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, for a four-year term.

Dr. Odusote will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office. Her elevation marks a significant milestone for legal education and gender representation in Nigeria.

Before her appointment as Director-General, Dr. Odusote served as the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and was also the Head of the Lagos Campus, one of the institution’s largest and most prominent campuses. At 57, she brings decades of academic and administrative experience to the role.

An accomplished legal scholar, Dr. Odusote holds both an LL.B and an LL.M from Obafemi Awolowo University. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests focusing on public law and the administration of justice.

Dr. Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 and has since built a distinguished career within the institution. Over the years, she has held several key leadership positions, including Director of Academics, Head of the Academic Department, and Head of Campus, contributing significantly to curriculum development and institutional administration.

Her current area of specialization is company and commercial law. She has also presented papers at various legal education conferences and has an extensive record of scholarly publications, reflecting her commitment to advancing legal scholarship and professional training in Nigeria.
