Court arraigns 60-year-old teacher for defiling 11-year-old pupil in Lagos

A 60-year-old teacher, Benjamin Omole has been arraigned by the Chief Magistrate court sitting in Ikeja for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old pupil in the school toilet.

The suspect who lives at Oke-Ona Close in Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos is being charged of rape and child defilement which he pleaded not guilty.

Omole is reported to have committed the offence on January 16, at Atunda-Olu School for Special Needs, located on Adam Orisha Street in Surulere, Lagos. He lured the victim into the act by offering to give her money to buy indomie noodles.

The prosecutor, Mr Benson Emuerhi disclosed that the little girl had complained that she didn’t want to eat the food given to her by her mother, and asked for N100 to buy noodles. Omole took advantage of the situation by taking the girl into the toilet before giving her the money.

“The defendant took the victim to the school’s toilet, fondled with her breasts and had sexual intercourse with her,” Emuerhi said.

The incident was subsequently reported at the Gender Section of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, by one Mrs Mercy Ogunranti which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Presiding over the case, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat ordered that he should be remanded in the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos State, pending the advice of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case was adjourned till April 4 for further hearing. If found guilty of the charge which contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, Omole might be handed up to life imprisonment.
