Court adjourns trial of Anthony Joshua’s driver to March 13 as prosecutors request more time to prepare evidence
Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in a tragic car crash on December 29, 2025, that resulted in the deaths of two members of British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua’s team, appeared at the magistrate’s court in Sagamu, Ogun state, today.
The prosecutors in charge of the case requested additional time to prepare their evidence, and the court adjourned the case until March 13.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, who was driving the vehicle carrying Joshua, his personal trainer Latif Ayodele, and strength coach Sina Ghami, faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license.
On January 2 2026, the Ogun police command hit the driver with a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
The incident occurred on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, near Lagos, Nigeria, when their Lexus SUV collided with a stationary lorry. Both Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami were pronounced dead at the scene. Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, 36, sustained injuries and was treated in hospital before being discharged two days later.
Kayode first appeared in court on the 20th of January. The driver of the ill-fated vehicle has not yet entered a plea to the charges of causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
