Corp members in Anambra moved to Imo, Ebonyi over lack of facilities

The Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps in Anambra State, Mr Kehinde Aremu has disclosed that prospective corp members intending to serve in the state will be moved to Imo and Ebonyi states due to inadequate camping facilities.

Speaking at the closing of camp for 2018 Batch C orientation exercise at Umunya Temporary Orientation Camp, he noted that the current site which was owned by the Anglican Church had become gruesomely insufficient to serve the number of corp members deployed to the state.

“Sadly, corps members deployed to Anambra will be holding their orientation course in Imo State. Earlier this year, Anambra corps members were moved to Ebonyi and Imo states,” he said. “This is because Anambra is the only state in South-East of Nigeria without a permanent orientation camp.”

He added that corp members were posted in pursuance of the scheme’s policy to meet the need of deserving employers who contribute to the human development of the state.

However, he appealed to the “vibrant private sector in Anambra to complement the efforts of the state government towards delivering the orientation camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu for 2019 Batch A”.

Many corp members were saddened by the absurdity of the situation and others regarded it as shameful. But it is expected that adequate provisions will be made for those who intend to serve in the state in the future.
