CJN Onnoghen defies CCT proceedings again
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen continues his defiance against the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT as he refuses to appear before the tribunal again.
In the previous hearing where he was absent, his counsel argued that he was not properly served the summons and the chairman of the tribunal had ordered that the charges be sent to him again.
Justice Onnoghen was then served summons some days later, but the FCT High Court issued an order against the trial.
Despite the ruling, the CCT still went on with the proceedings as it resumed hearing on the case only to be shunned by the CJN for the second time.
Although the trial has been met with varying bouts of criticism, especially on the legal standpoint of trying the Chief Justice, there are still questions regarding the outcome of his continued disregard for the CCT.
Burdened by this issue, the counsel to the Federal Government, Aliu Umar has called for Onnoghen to step aside from his role as the CJN pending the determination of the case.
