Cholera: 4 dead in Adamawa, over 50 infected
A cholera outbreak has claimed four lives and infected over 50 people in Adamawa State.
The Executive Chairman of Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir, confirmed the outbreak last week.
Dr. Bashir attributed the outbreak to contaminated water sources, lack of sanitation facilities, and poor hygiene practices. The agency has deployed health officials to the affected areas, including Girei, Yola South, and Fufore local government areas.
The Adamawa State Government has launched a public awareness campaign to educate residents on cholera prevention and symptoms. The government has established cholera treatment centres in the affected areas and is providing free medical care to affected individuals.
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has directed the Ministry of Water Resources to provide emergency water supply to the affected areas. The state government is collaborating with international partners, including the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund, to combat the outbreak.
