Child Abuse: Man beats maid, rubs salt on her injuries for refusing to fetch water in Abia
A man, identified as Chibuike Onwuchekwa, allegedly subjected a young girl, about 10 years old, to brutal punishment for failing to fill water containers in Umuga Ovom in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
Onwuchekwa allegedly inflicted injuries on the housemaid and proceeded to add salt and pepper into her wounds.
The girl, according to reports, had been sent to fill two water containers in Onwuchekwa’s house from a nearby borehole, while he left for church with his wife last Sunday.
The couple returned to find that the young girl failed to fill up the containers before the shop owner closed.
Onwuchekwa allegedly pounced on the girl, beat her and locked her up and left for an event with his wife, despite the pleas from neighbours.
A resident told newsmen that neighbours alerted the police about the little girl’s plight, after she told them her boss poured a mixture of salt and pepper on the injuries he inflicted on her.
The resident alleged that it wasn’t the first time Onwuchekwa would mete out such punishment on the girl.
Police say the girl is receiving treatment.
