Chef shoots self dead weeks after his restaurant was named best in the world
Top chef, Benoit Violier, is thought to have committed suicide after his body was found with a rifle by his side in his home, Sunday.
Until his death, Violier, 44, ran the three Michelin Star Restaurant de l’Hotel de Ville in Switzerland which was named the best of 1,000 top eateries across 48 countries ranked by France’s ‘La Liste’, Dailymail reports.
He was also billed to attend the launch of the new Michelin Guide in Paris on Monday (today).
“Late in the afternoon, police went to Crissier where they discovered at his home the where they discovered at his home the body of Mr Benoit Violier,” Swiss police said.
According to the police, the french born chef appeared to have shot himself, Swiss news website 24 Heures reports.
An investigation into the death has been opened..
