Chaos in Ikeja: Nigerian Air Force Personnel Storm IKEDC Office Over Electricity Disconnection
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) headquarters on Thursday as personnel from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) allegedly stormed the premises in retaliation for an electricity disconnection at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja.
According to IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okotie, the violent invasion resulted in vandalism, theft, and physical assault on staff members.
“It happened this morning. The Nigerian Air Force personnel from Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja, invaded our offices,” Okotie confirmed to TheCable. “They are owing us over N4 billion in electricity debt. After they were disconnected, this is what we got in return.”
Recounting the ordeal, Okotie revealed that the attackers not only ransacked the offices but also left a trail of destruction.
“They molested and assaulted our staff. I have a fractured leg,” he stated. “They took 16 of our vehicles, forcing our drivers to operate them. They also stole laptops, phones, and destroyed all our IT infrastructure, even blinding the CCTV cameras.”
Amid the chaos, IKEDC’s CEO, Folake Soetan, reportedly had to take cover as the intruders sought to apprehend her.
“They were looking vehemently for her,” Okotie added.
