Power Supply: 10 “revealing” things angry Nigerians are saying about IKEDC, NERC, Buhari…and the rest

The Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) recently fined the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) a total of N131.4m for failing to implement the regulator’s metering initiative.

Sam Amadi NERC Chairman
Commenters says NERC Chairman Sam Amadi is part of the “corruption.”

The Punch reported the story and some Nigerians have seized the opportunity to voice their grievances.

Following are some of their comments…

One.

This is beautifully scripted. That estimated billing is the greatest fraud of our time. My estimated billing jumped from 5k to more than 20k per month! Agreed the supply increased, but the billing is still not commensurate with what I consumed especially looking at those with meters. I just pray and hope PMB will give us a minister for power who will be very thorough and will not dance to the tunes of the cabal in that sector. – LasgidyPort

Two.

I expect PMB and Prof (VP) to have jailed this Amadi. The guy is just deceiving the masses! If you are following him from the past govt u will observe that is tongue is changing now to deceive the President/VP as if his on masses side!!! PLS. KINDLY SET UP A PANEL TO INVESTIGATE THIS GUY. – Yusuf Akasun

Three.

Estimated billing stands for outright extortion and exploitation. PMB AND all THE so called useless and ritualist leaders are all benefiting from all these. JUST BECOS NIGERIANS ARE COWARDS AND WILL PAY FOR WHAT THEY DO NOT USE….USELESS COUNTRY. – Pato

There is improved power supply in Nigeria but the demons of crazy bills and fix charges lingers.

Four.

Amadi is a joker. He is only trying to be serious so PMB will not fire him. He is an accomplice in the power sector fraud. The money IKEDC was asked to pay will be gotten from the consumers through estimated billing. Amadi is not fit for the job, Amadi must go with the old regime – Abbas

Well this is a first step even though it is really late. however the fines and punishment needs to be more to force this DISCO to do what they have being asked to do. This fine is not huge enough. The fines needs to materially affect this discos, basically hitting their bottom line. so in addition this fines, they should be prevented from collecting any fixed charge until they compily with directive and they can’t retroactive collect those fixed charges when they compile. – Emmanuel Kalu

Six.

NERC will keep on with this hypocritical display of an obedient servant who secretly connives with hoodlums to defraud his master. Most times we are helpless in the hands of these fraudulent fellows. And until ‘WE’ together contribute voices against this resident evil, this nexus of hyper tangles of fraudulent romances between the discos, the NERC and some (duplicitous but) key stakeholders will continue to plunge the citizenry into continual privation amidst plenty. – Meyeh

These NERC guys are clowns or do they think Nigerians are fools or what? If they could fine IKEDC that heavily then I would expect them to fine more heavily, Eko Distribution company that is not even talking about giving their customers the pre-paid meter and deliberately leaving millions on estimated billing because they rake in free money without providing anything. – BabaNla

How does this fine benefit the end users or customers? This money goes into government purse. It would rather give some benefits to customers if IKEDC are penalised by compelling them to give free uninterrupted power to consumers for 3 or 6 months! – Orler

Nigeria we hail thee. Its citizens were given estimated bills. Many paid with complaints and pain. NERCcomes  to the rescue, fines the companies and pockets the penalties paid. Nothing is returned to the citizens that were defrauded. – Oladapo Sunday

This NERC guys cant do more than a dead rat. So long as fix billing and service charge dey exist, all thier work na banza. Abolish fixed billing and service charge and lets start from there. – Luke
