Buratai orders military crackdown on IPOB over election disruption threat

The Nigeria Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has ordered a total crackdown on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB over their threat to boycott election in the Southeast.

The group who have continued activities to re-establish a breakaway country on grounds of the defunct Biafra Republic had warned that they will not allow any elections to hold in their ‘Biafraland’ unless they’re granted referendum for secession.

Based on this prerogative, the Army disclosed that it has information at its disposal concerning “some unpatriotic groups aided by foreign conspirators to scuttle the peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections in some parts of the country”.

“In this regard, GOCs and field commanders at all levels are to deal decisively with any form of security breach,” Buratai ordered.
