Buhari’s house on fire as Senate declares IGP Idris unfit for public office

While President Buhari undergoes medical checks in the United Kingdom, the Nigerian Senate has grown impatient with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and has declared him unfit to hold any public office.

Idris has constantly ignored the lawmakers’ invitation to give updates on killings going on in several parts of the country, as well as issues concerning their colleague, Dino Melaye’s arrest.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Reps speaker, Yakubu Dogara, had met with Buhari before his UK trip to report Idris.

The Senate, on Wednesday, labelled the police boss “a threat to our democracy.”

Saraki said the IGP’s non-appearance “is a great disrespect to the institution and constitutional authority.

“Therefore the Senate resolved to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria.”

Saraki added that the Senate would look to take further necessary action against Idris.
