BREAKING: Nigerian Troops Eliminate 60 Insurgents in Fierce Overnight Battle in Borno
Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have killed at least 60 terrorists in a daring overnight operation in the Bita area of Borno State.
The clash erupted around 1:09 a.m. on Friday when insurgents launched a surprise attack on soldiers from the 26th Task Force Brigade. But what followed was a swift and coordinated counteroffensive that dealt a devastating blow to the attackers.
Describing the assault as “decisive and coordinated,” the Nigerian Army announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that the joint land and air offensive completely overran the terrorist positions. The statement confirmed that a combined force of infantry troops and air power—including A-29 Super Tucano aircraft and the Dragon strike platform—was deployed to maximum effect.
“At least 60 terrorists were neutralised in this intense battle,” the Army said.
According to Zagazola Makama, a leading counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the firefight continued until approximately 3:23 a.m., with real-time airstrikes hammering enemy positions and destroying two insurgent gun trucks.
Military sources reported that, following the initial engagement, troops launched immediate exploitation operations to pursue and capture surviving insurgents. The air force re-engaged fleeing fighters, destroying an additional two gun trucks in the process.
“The battle is still ongoing with follow-up strikes targeting retreating terrorist groups,” a source told Zagazola Makama. “This operation marks one of the most decisive and devastating hits against ISWAP in recent months.”
