Boy, 9, commits suicide after being bullied by classmates for being gay
James Myles, a nine-year-old boy in Denver, Colorado committed suicide reportedly because his classmates refused to accept him after he came out as gay.
According to Yahoo lifestyle, his distraught mother said the young boy had told her about his sexuality weeks before.
Myles’ mother said the news must have been very hard for his classmates to comprehend.
“‘He looked so scared when he told me,” Myles’ mom said.
“He was like ‘mom I’m gay and I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared and I said, I still love you.”
Myles, who just started 4th grade, thought he would get the same reaction from his classmates, and he decided to tell them that he was gay.
His confession allegedly led to bullying by his mates, which eventually made him commit suicide.
Myles’ mom said he was clearly going through a transition of his new found sexuality, adding that she was “so upset that he thought that was his last option”.
