BOMBSHELL! Senator Dino Melaye “gives political thugs rifles”, declared wanted by police in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested two wanted criminals who allegedly engaged in terrorising the state.

The suspects, Kabiru Saidu and Nuhu Salisu, were said to have confessed that they were political thugs recruited by some politicians in Kogi State to cause mayhem, disruption of peace, as well as destruction of lives and property in the state.

Police PRO in the state, CP Jimoh Moshood, said Saidu and Nuhu were arrested on January 19 after the duo engaged the police team in a gun battle that lasted for some hours at Ogojueje in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.

While parading the suspects on Monday (today), Moshood said they have confessed to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of several kidnappings and armed robbery in different towns across Kogi State and its environs.

He said Saidu, 31, confessed to be working as a political thug for one Alh. Mohammed Audu who also introduced him to Senator Dino Melaye.

According to the police spokesperson, Saidu said Senator Dino asked him in December 2017 to recruit more thugs to work for him in order to prepare for the forthcoming 2019 elections and to also challenge his political opponents.

Saidu also said Senator Dino handed over a bag containing one AK 47 rifle, two pump action rifles and a sum of N430,000 to share with his boys.

The police spokesperson said Saidu’s confessions prompted the police to write to the Senate on March 2, asking that Senator Dino be released for questioning on March 7, but he has refused to show up.

Moshood said a case of Criminal Conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited forearms have been filed by the police against the two suspects arrested, as well as against Senator Dino Melaye, and Alh. Mohammed Audu who is currently on the run.
