“Atiku Is a Loser Again” – Onanuga Mocks as Delta PDP Leaders Join APC
Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has mocked former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar following the defection of top Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figures to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the collapse of Atiku’s proposed opposition coalition.
The defection, which included Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other influential PDP leaders, marks a significant blow to the opposition’s strength in the South-South and casts doubt on Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambitions.
Reacting to the development, Onanuga said the move signals the disintegration of the coalition Abubakar was building alongside former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, Babachir Lawal, and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed.
“Atiku’s political future looks bleak,” Onanuga posted on X. “The coalition that he, El-Rufai, Babachir, and new member Baba-Ahmed are cobbling together has disintegrated.”
He further ridiculed the former vice-president, noting the withdrawal of key allies.
“Potential allies, including former running mate Ifeanyi Okowa and defunct CPC members, are giving his leprous group a wide berth,” he said. “Atiku is a loser again.”
Okowa, Abubakar’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is also expected to defect to the APC—another symbolic crack in the opposition wall.
Meanwhile, PDP governors have publicly dismissed any possibility of merging or forming a coalition with other political parties, further isolating Atiku’s position.
