“Area boys” break into house, rape girl, 14, to death for refusing their sexual advances in Lagos

Obiamaka has been described as a prospective JSS3 student before her death.

The life of 14-year-old Obiamaka Ngozichukwu Orakwue has been cut short by suspected “area boys” who wouldn’t take “no” for an answer to their romantic advances.

The boys, according to reports, had been disturbing little Obiamaka, a JSS 2 student, to give them a chance.

She refused, notifying her mother of the boys’ constant harassment.

The mother, in turn, warned the “area boys” to stay away from her daughter.

It appears the hoodlums, however, had other plans for the Obosi, Anambra native.

About two weeks ago, July 10 precisely, some hoodlums broke into Obiamaka’s family’s compound at Abule Ado area of Lagos while her parents were away, ripped the burglary and forcefully had their way with her.

They left her for dead in a pool of her blood afterwards.

Residents of the area who saw the boys as they scaled the fence out of the compound quickly notified her mother who had gone to work.

“I was at work when I got a call from our neighbour that they saw some boys jumping out from the fence of our compound and that my daughter was my responding to the knock on the gate since it was locked from inside,” Obiamaka’s mother, Mrs Orakwe, is quoted as saying.

“On getting into the house, I opened the gate with my spare key and dashed into the room only to find my daughter gasping for breath in the pool of her blood. I asked her what happened and all she could mutter was, ‘mummy…those boys I told you about’.

Obiamaka, described by her father as a “brilliant student”, was later pronounced dead at the hospital she was rushed to.

She was buried last Friday, and the “area boys”, whom her mother said she suspected were behind the attack, remain at large.

“We have reported the incident to the police and they promised to apprehend the culprits but we still have not heard from them till date,” Obi’s father, Mr Obinna Orakwe, said.
