Alleged fraudsters swindle desperate job seekers of N4.2m

Two alleged fraudsters have been arrested in Niger State for allegedly duping desperate job seekers.

Kabiru Mohammed, 37, and Christopher Ishaya were alleged to have swindled at least 14 people seeking employment of a total of N4.2m.

Mohammed allegedly fooled unsuspecting job seekers of the sum by claiming that he could provide jobs for them within the paramilitary agencies in the country.

The victims were said to have handed between N100,000 and N800,000 to the suspect.

Ishaya, according to Northern City News, played a part in the fraud by facilitating the printing of fake employment letters and staff identity cards issued to the victims.

Mohammed is quoted as saying that he only acted as an intermediary between his unnamed boss and the victims.

“Frankly speaking, I thought it was genuine; after all, nothing is impossible in Nigeria. A lot of people I know got jobs through the back door like this. I never knew that it was fake,” he claimed.

“Ninety-five per cent of workers in Nigeria got their jobs through the back door. It is because this did not work out that they labeled me a criminal; if it had worked out, I would have become a hero, a man who can get job for applicants.”

One Peter James was said to be at large and has been declared wanted for his alleged role in the fraud.
