AFCON 2021: Super Eagles cruise into Round of 16 as the only team with maximum points
In their final group match on Wednesday night, the Super Eagles of Nigeria showed class and finesse in their 2-0 win against the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau.
Goals from Umar Sadiq and William Troost-Ekong secured a maximum of nine months for Nigeria, making the Super Eagles the only team at AFCON 2021 with maximum points from the group games.
The AFCON 2013 champions went into the tournament without losing any of their qualifiers.
Egypt also join Nigeria in the Round of 16 after their 1-0 win over Sudan. Guinea Bissau and Sudan are now out of the tournament.
Guinea, who made their third continental appearance at AFCON 2021, have never had more than one point in their three appearances. They have always lost two games and drawn one since their first appearance in 2017.
In the Round of 16, Nigeria will face a third-placed team from Group B (Malawi), Group E (Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone or Algeria) or Group F (Gambia, Mali or Tunisia).
Meanwhile, “33” Export Lager beer, the official beer partner of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has applauded the Super Eagles for finishing top of Group D and the only team to finish the group stages with maximum points.
