ABUAD: “Why we wore bandanas to smash female hostel, cars” – Afe Babalola varisty student
The vandalisation that ravaged Afe Babalolo University (ABUAD) on Sunday night resulted from a cult clash gone awry, a student familiar with the incident has told NewsroomNG.
Cars were vandalised, girls were brutalised, phones and ATM cards were stolen as masked invaded a female hostel after the cult clash went south.
Rival cult groups were reportedly bracing for a clash when the police arrived and tried to diffuse the tension.
“The boys were going to corporate with the police until one of them cocked his gun and threatened to shoot,” a student who doesn’t want to be named told NewsroomNG on Monday morning.
A notorious ABUAD student, and alleged cultist, then challenged the officer for drawing his rifle.
“It was at the point the police officer pulled the trigger and shot the student,” our source said.
“He’s a popular student on campus and that didn’t go well with his squad. They thought they had to teach the school a lesson and make them feel their impact.
“All of them carry bandanas around in case of situations like this. There are cameras everywhere, including the rooms where we stay.
“No one wants to be identified for wrecking this damage so everyone wore masks and made some trouble,” he said.
NewsroomNG gathered that the vandalisation started around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night and lasted till around 4:00 a.m on Monday.
While this lasted, the police, reportedly didn’t return to protect the female students who went on Twitter to call for help.
A female student told us she fainted as the masked boys broke into her hostel.
“My phone and ATM cards were forcefully taken but later returned,” she said.
We gathered some female students were also beaten. The notorious “cultist” shot by the police is said to be okay as he sustained “only flesh wound.”
We await the university authority to relate the official version of events..
