8-year-old girl raped, murdered in South Africa
The remains of an 8-year-old girl identified as Vutlhari Sithole has been found after she disappeared at a playground near her home in Lehae, Johannesburg on Friday evening.
Sowetanlive reports that Vutlhari’s body was dumped in the veld and signs on her body showed she may have been raped.
A neighbour, said to be her grandfather’s colleague, reportedly told her to follow him to his house on the fateful day.
Vutlhari’s grandfather, Zwelakhe Nukeri, said he was shattered when he saw the girl’s lifeless body which was found after a 12-hour search on Saturday.
“I saw that she was bashed in the head several times,” Nukeri is quoted as saying.
“Her neck was bruised because the guy strangled her. She was in a small ditch on the other side of the Golden Highway.
“Her pants were pulled down to her knees and you could see that she was fighting for her life because she also had bruises all over her body.”
Police spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza said a 27-year-old suspect was being sought for Vutlhari’s rape and murder.
