September 5, 2017
Flood has submerged 21 communities in Cross River state, with 15 people sadly losing their lives in July and August this year.
The deaths recorded saw seven die in Biase, four in Ogoja, three in Yala and one in Obubra Local Government Areas.
It comes two years after a similar disaster in 2015, with those close to waterways affected and many thatched houses being destroyed.
It was a tough situation for many commuters travelling on the four major streets in Calabar South, including Goldie, Target, Yellow-Duke, Ekpo-Abasi as they could not continue with their trips because of the flood.
Between July and August this year, Calabar has witnessed 217 flood cases in 21 communities across 12 Local Government Areas of the state.
The issue of flooding in this area has been given less attention by the State Government.
