Pelican Island: 12-year-old girl hospitalised after saving sister from drowning

The two girls were making their way back to the beach from a sand bank at Pelican Island in Cape Town, South Africa when the younger, aged 6, disappeared under the water, reports say.
The older sister reportedly dived into the water and pushed her sister to the surface, “only coming up herself when she needed to breath,” an emergency care worker said.
Noticing what was going on, their father who had gone surfing, rushed to their rescue.
“When he got to them, he pulled the youngest child onto the surfboard, but when he pulled the other child out he found that she had stopped breathing.”
But she coughed, brought up water and started breathing on her own just as medics approached.
She got first-aid treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital..
