Zimbabwe: Woman, 33, “axes husband and set him on fire” over infidelity issues
A 33-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Mavis Madenga, has landed in trouble for allegedly killing her husband and setting him on fire.
Madenga, following a quarrel with her husband, Joseph Marisa over infidelity issues on May 13, allegedly axed him to death in his sleep.
She was said to have set the room ablaze to cover her tracks after committing the crime.
New Zimbabwe reports that Madenga was arraigned before a Magistrate Court on Monday.
The prosecutor told the court that Madenga waited for her husband to be asleep and, at around midnight, took an axe and struck him twice on the head killing him instantly.
She allegedly called out to neighbours for help after setting the bedroom on fire with her husband in it.
Marisa was badly burnt beyond recognition, the court further heard.
Madenga was said to have confessed to the police during investigation that she axed her husband and set the hut ablaze.
She was remanded in custody till next week and was asked to apply for bail at the High Court.
