Yahaya Bello: First Nigerian governor sworn in without deputy

Bello was sworn in without Faleke, the deputy he nominated.

The fourth democratically elected governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was sworn on Wednesday without a deputy.

We can’t remember the last time that happened…well, apart from this time.

James Faleke, the man who should be Bello’s deputy, has refused to cooperate with the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Faleke was running mate to Abubakar Audu, the man who died hours before the Kogi State elections were concluded. It was the first time a Nigerian governorship candidate would during an election.

Many say it was Audu’s death that made the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declare the polls inconclusive.

When INEC told the APC to pick its new candidate, the party opted for Bello who came second in the party primary.

Faleke insists he was next in line. He was nominated as Faleke’s deputy but he declined.

It seems Governor Yahaya Bello will spend the rest of 2016 fighting off Faleke’s legal soldiers..
