Woman, 40, arrested for sponsoring robbery gang in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an alleged 2-man robbery gang for using a tricycle as an operational vehicle to dispossess their victims, while posing as genuine transporters.
Lagos police boss, Edgal Imohimi explained that when people board the suspects’ tricycle, they take them to an isolated place and rob them of valuable items. According to the police commissioner, the suspects usually operate along Ebute-Ero, Lagos Island and Apapa axis.
Their names are given as Monsuru Tiamiyu, 21, Jamiu Hammed, 20, and their sponsor, Queen Victor, 40.
Monsuru and Jamiu reportedly said the tricycle was given out to one of their friends on hired purchase, but they decided to use it for robbery operations because they believed it will earn them more money.
Police say Queen Victor does not go with the suspects during operations but allegedly receives the phones they steal and sponsors them for operations if they did not have money.
