Wike Signs 2 MoUs With Chinese Firms Over Water and Power Supply
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with two Chinese firms in a bid to boost lighting of the FCT and enable better rural water supply.
News of this was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye, in Abuja on Sunday.
It reveals the names of the Chinese firms as China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group.
The statement revealed that the MoUs were signed in the Chinese capital of Beinjing, when Wike acompanied President Bola Tinubu for the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.
The projects to be carried out have been given a deadline date on or before the 50th anniversary of the creation of the FCT to be completed.

“One key project that is very dear to us is the lighting up of Abuja. As Abuja will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, we envision it to be a jubilee year. We want Abuja to shine like other global cities, similar to the lighting we have seen in Beijing,” Wike said.
According to the statement, CCECC will oversee the lighting of key areas including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business Area, Airport Road, and Bill Clinton Drive, while CGCOC will handle the lighting projects in Mabushi, Katampe, and Garki districts.
Wike also noted that the Greater Abuja Water Works project being managed by CGCOC is close to 75% completion with hopes of a December time frame.
The Minister emphasized that the aim of the new MoU with CGCOC was to avail rural areas like Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje, better water supply.
