Why Linda “Desperado” Ikeji’s husband hunt must end now
Linda Ikeji is, by societal standards, a successful woman.
She has a house in Banana Island, Ikoyi and has become one of the most powerful women in Nigeria who started from the ground up.
The blogger does well with philanthropy, giving back advice and money to the community that has made her what she is today.
Linda Ikeji has withstood the test of time and technology.
She’s been using the same Blogger back end for about 10 years and has remained true to her calling from when people were struggling with the concept of instant messaging till now that websites are the new billboards.
Linda Ikeji has really tried.
Today is her 36th birthday and I wish her a happy and interesting birthday. I hope she grows big and better and she keeps inspiring young women like myself to do so much with so little.
However, there’s a tiny little issue.
I watched her almost-15-minute-long birthday video.
I saw the sincerity and naiveté of the woman Nigerians have called callous and silly. I could see she was enjoying life but I could also tell there was a void she eagerly wanted to fill.
She said it with her own mouth:
“Now, I know that this is now important… We are now in critical times. I’m 36 now. I definitely wanna get married and have kids… I can’t wait to be a wife…”
I have absolutely no problem with Miss Ikeji admitting to a vacuum in her life. As a matter of fact, I think only very few women know what they want. Linda knew she wanted a booming media presence with a strong foundation before anything else.
She said it herself:
“I was paying so much attention to my career… I was so determined to succeed. I didn’t pay much attention to my personal life… I’ve never really prayed about it.”
What I think might be an issue is Linda publicly expressing how much she wants a husband. I think it makes her very vulnerable.
She practically said she was searching for prospective husbands. Like she was the one doing “the searching” – asking her friends to introduce her to single guys…
We had a discussion about this at work. Everyone agrees her “declaration” makes her an easy target for hungry men.
Asides from the desperation sensed in the video, it’s evident that Linda believes that a man completes her — you know, that crown of my head mentality that is a worldwide norm.
Now, I’m no feminist but I’m one who believes that to be successful in the media/fame industry, you must be and remain an enigma to the world. Except you want to make headlines, keep your secrets, wishes and cravings inside you.
Yes, she’s a media girl and she knows how people will talk.
Come to think of it, how do we know she didn’t do this on purpose?
