“Why I criticised my husband’s government” – Aisha Buhari
Wife of President Buhari, Aisha Buhari has explained why she has been critical of her husband’s administration.
Aisha had, in an interview with BBC in 2016, said Buhari had the wrong people in his government.
She went on to say she might not vote for her husband again should he seek reelection for another term in office.
Reacting to the 2016 interview as she received the Vanguard Personality of the Year 2017, Aisha said she made the comments based on her sense of judgement.
She said the interview was not intended to be confrontational or disrespectful to her husband.
“One of the reasons adduced for honouring me (with the Vanguard award) was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I am part of,” she said in a statement released on Sunday (today).
“I need to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and not confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been.
“As we are all aware, Nigerians elected this administration based on the trust and confidence they have on my husband; I, therefore, feel that we are here to serve Nigeria to the best of our ability.
“Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and will continue to do so.”
