Why Burna Boy is mocking Nigerians after accountant general’s office was razed by fire

The fire that razed the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in Abuja on Wednesday gave singer Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy a good opportunity to hit back at Nigerians on Twitter, a few days after threatening to leave the microblogging site following consistent attacks and trolling he receives.

A part of the Treasury House, the building housing the AGF’s Office in Abuja went up in flames on Wednesday morning. Workers and occupants of the building are believed to be in their homes in compliance with the lockdown order by the Federal Government.

The Public Relations Officer of the the Federal Fire Service, Sandra Ugo told journalists that firefighters arrived on time and were able to put out the fire before much damage was done to the building.

Reacting to the fire incident, Burna Boy took to his Instagram page to throw a jibe at Nigerians on social media and insinuated that the building was deliberately razed to cover up fraudulent activities in the finance office.

He said Nigerians should channel the same energy they dissipate on attacking entertainers into questioning politicians on how they are spending public funds.

“Nigerians deserve everything happening to them. Those of you on Twitter should use the same energy you used to call out Funke Akindele to tackle your politicians,” Burna Boy said in videos posted on his Instagram story.

“You like politicians who misappropriate public fund but hate those of us who struggle to make money, you better use the same energy otherwise you will suffer.”

His anger at Twitter users may not be unconnected with the backlash he received on Twitter last Tuesday March 31, 2020, after saying fellow singer, Reekado Banks, who indicated interest to engage him in a “battle of hits” was an unworthy challenger.

Netizens didn’t spare Burna Boy, they were united in their condemnation of his comment and said he is “too proud and arrogant”. Following the backlashes, he announced that he might be quitting Twitter.

“This is my last personal tweet ever. I Imma just leave this app cuz apparently I’m too real for it,” he tweeted.

Though he has not tweeted since then, he has been retweeting his mentions and has been more active on Instagram.
