What IPOB members think of Nigeria’s 57 independence anniversary
In his Independence Day speech, President Muhammadu Buhari took a moment to touch on the agitations by a certain group in the country, saying ‘Recent calls on re-structuring, quite proper in a legitimate debate, has let in highly irresponsible groups to call for dismemberment of the country. We can not and we will not allow such advocacy…’
Although he did not mention the Indigenous People of Biafra by name, the labelling of the group as a terrorist group makes it clear how the federal government feels about their agitation.
On the occasion of Nigeria’s 57th anniversary, IPOB has decided to commemorate the day by wearing black and refrain from wearing the Biafran flag to avoid arrest my Nigerian security forces.
Despite the fact that the group’s leader Nnamdi Kanu has withdrawn from the public since the raid on his compound three weeks ago, the group still maintains that they are marginalised as itemised below:
Nigeria is a lawless country:
Mazi Onyebuchi Eze says the Nigerian government has practically showed a total disrespect, flagrant disdain and open deviance against international laws, conventions and protocols governing self-determination on the issue of Biafra agitation and their peaceful quest for a referendum.
Human rights abuse:
IPOB members feel Nigerian government deserves stiff sanctions from the United Nations, European Union, African Union, ECOWAS due to high rate of human right abuses on Biafrans over their demand for a referendum which is in line with International Laws.
IPOB wants Nigeria diplomatic relationship with USA, UK, France, Israel severed:
IPOB members claimed Nigeria diplomatic relationship with USA, France, UK, Israel, Turkey and Germany must be completely severed because of the unquestionable integrity of these nations which cannot stand side by side with the Nigerian government defiance to International Laws.
Nnamdi Kanu destroyed Nigeria with the truth:
Paul Ihechi Alagba who sees Kanu as the Lion of Biafra, he believe Biafra has come to stay. IPOB members are still angry over the attack of their members in the South East, they even sent food to some of their members in Degema prison.
Labeling IPOB as terrorist organisation:
Former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof Ilochi Okafor has charged elders of Igboland not to keep quiet in the face of brazen intimidation by the federal government against the people of the South-East.
He also condemned labeling of the group as a terrorist organization and the deployment of soldiers to the south east, saying that the federal government had no justification for the action, but only sought to intimidate and bully the people of the region.
