We’ll follow Kwankwaso to any political party he moves to – Kano Governor
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has restated his unwavering loyalty to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), pledging to follow his political lead wherever it may go.
Speaking on Sunday to a gathering of 484 councillors from the state’s 44 local government areas at the Kano Government House, Yusuf declared that “wherever he [Kwankwaso] goes politically, his supporters will follow,” reaffirming the enduring influence of the NNPP leader on Kano’s political landscape.
The declaration comes at a time of heightened political manoeuvring across Nigeria, with a wave of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speculation is swirling that more prominent figures, including governors, could soon jump ship.
Beyond politics, Governor Yusuf used the platform to charge councillors with a crucial mission — becoming the bridge between the state government and the people at the grassroots.
“You are the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots,” said Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, quoting Yusuf. “Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and present their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act.”
To back the promise of action, the governor announced that nearly ₦5 billion has been earmarked for ward-level development projects across the state. The funds will address critical infrastructure such as classrooms, drainage systems, and other pressing community needs.
Yusuf emphasised that the projects must be driven by sincerity, transparency, and dedication, ensuring that every naira spent directly benefits the people of Kano. “We are committed to ensuring this government delivers real, tangible change,” he stated.
With his latest address, Governor Yusuf appears determined to strengthen his political base while delivering grassroots development, all under the enduring banner of Kwankwasiyya loyalty.
