Wayward truck crushes three pupils, two others to death during Jumat service
A fatal accident disrupted proceedings at a Jumat service in Odeomu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, a Friday.
Three pupils and two adults were crushed to death after a truck veered off the Osogbo-Ibadan Highway and crashed into the perimeter fence of the Central Mosque in the town.
An Islamic cleric, Ismail Babalola, was about entering the mosque at the time. He was one of the adults killed.
The pupils were also on their way to the mosque at the time.
Two other persons were reportedly injured in the accident.
Seeing that he had killed some people, the truck driver fled after his vehicle was stopped at the fence.
Mr. Teslim Olodo is the father of one of the kids, Abdurasak.
“We cannot question God for allowing the accident to happen,” he said.
“Abdurasak has been buried. He was buried on Friday.
“But we want the government to take concrete steps to stop this kind of accident by erecting bumps on the road. This will reduce the speed of vehicles.”
Policemen, on arrival at the scene, tried to tow the truck away but angry youths stopped them.
They reportedly threatened to set the vehicle on fire..
